Over the years, a few of our customers wanted to switch to “high end” ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software. Budget overrun was a common theme we heard because it took a long time to implement. Some of them expressed a desire to switch back to Elliott, but thought it was too late in the game. Some of them indeed switched back to Elliott Business Software even though they wasted money on the failed “high end” ERP system. One mistake commonly made was under estimating the tasks required to switch ERP software. Unfortunately, ERP vendors are reluctant to provide the full extent of resources needed to switch for fear of scaring off the customer. ERP software is complicated by nature and different ERP systems handle tasks differently. Many last minute surprises only arise when you have already switched over.
According to the latest survey by Panorama Consulting, the successful deployment of ERP software often takes longer and costs more than projected. Ten percent of respondents said they considered their ERP software a failure, 61% said it exceeded their implementation schedule and more than half said costs went beyond the budget.
